Report: Shawn Michaels Poised to Replace Bruce Prichard; AJ Styles, Bayley and CM Punk Linked to Bigger NXT Roles

PWInsider reports Shawn Michaels is expected to take over Bruce Prichard’s role in WWE, and outlets say AJ Styles, Bayley and CM Punk are being discussed as figures who could become more involved with NXT once the transition begins.

PWInsider has reported that WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels is expected to replace Bruce Prichard after reports earlier this week that Prichard would retire from his WWE role following WrestleMania 43. The outlet says the transition process is expected to start in the coming months.

The anticipated change at the top of WWE’s veteran leadership has prompted reporting on how NXT’s backstage landscape could shift. PWInsider’s update suggested Michaels taking Prichard’s spot would likely reduce Michaels’ day-to-day involvement with NXT, and other names are being linked to a larger role on the brand.

False Finish reported that people at the WWE Performance Center expect AJ Styles to be more active with NXT. Styles, who retired from in-ring competition at the Royal Rumble event in Riyadh in January and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame over WrestleMania 42 weekend, has been appearing regularly at the Performance Center and has worked as a producer on NXT matches.

The Wrestling Observer has also named two other veterans who could increase their presence in NXT. The Observer reported Bayley as a possible addition to the brand’s behind-the-scenes or developmental work, noting her experience running the Lodestone training camp outside WWE. CM Punk was also listed by the Observer as someone who has frequently appeared at the Performance Center since his 2023 return and who has been discussed as taking backstage responsibilities.

All three outlets framed these developments as expectations and possibilities rather than confirmed assignments. If the reported shifts happen, the on-screen and developmental NXT product could evolve with more contributions from AJ Styles and CM Punk, and continued emphasis on the women’s division if Bayley becomes more involved.

These reports come from PWInsider, False Finish and Wrestling Observer and remain unconfirmed by WWE.
