Paul Heyman likens Christian Watson’s ambulance return to classic WCW angle

After Christian Watson left Thursday’s Packers–Panthers game by ambulance and later returned to play, Paul Heyman compared the scene to Sting’s 1991 WCW ambulance angle and praised the NFL’s handling.

F4WOnline reported that Christian Watson exited Thursday night’s Green Bay Packers vs. Carolina Panthers game in an ambulance after landing awkwardly on a catch and coughing up blood. A CT scan showed no internal bleeding, and despite having a broken rib Watson was cleared to return to the game with additional padding.

The Packers defeated the Panthers 27-19; Watson finished with eight receptions for 113 yards.

Wrestling personality Paul Heyman responded on social media, comparing the scene to Sting’s 1991 WCW ambulance appearance against Ravishing Rick Rude and praising how the NFL handled the moment. Heyman’s post also included promotion for a video discussion featuring his son.

Watson told reporters after the game that the experience felt like something he’d seen on WWE television as a child, saying the cameras on him when he returned from the ambulance were "a little crazy" and that the fans’ reaction was surreal.

The sequence — a player taken from the field in an ambulance and later returning to play — immediately drew comparisons from fans and analysts to pro-wrestling angles in which an injured competitor is stretchered out but still competes. Details above are reported by F4WOnline.
