Three-way tie sets up final Super Junior Tag League weekend
New Japan’s Super Junior Tag League entered its penultimate B Block night in Gifu on Friday in front of 921 fans, leaving the block in a three-way tie heading into the final round-robin matches.
YOH & Hyo, Blake Christian & Lee Johnson (The Swirl) and Kosei Fujita & Robbie Eagles all picked up wins on the show and sit on six points apiece.
The main event saw Kosei Fujita & Robbie Eagles defeat Francesco Akira & Jakob Austin Young of the United Empire. The match leaned into a storyline of Akira and Young being at odds, and Fujita scored the decisive pin after hitting the Thrill Ride on Young. The loss eliminated the United Empire team from tag league contention.
YOH & Hyo stayed alive with a victory over Titán & Daiki Nagai when the 3K landed on Nagai. The defeat dropped Titán & Daiki to a 0-4 record in B Block.
The Swirl — Blake Christian & Lee Johnson — kept their chances intact by defeating SHO & Dick Togo. Members of House of Torture tried to play spoiler, but Christian finished Togo with Brainrot for the pinfall.
Attention now shifts to the final A Block matches on Saturday, where three teams remain alive. The top A Block match listed is KUSHIDA & Nick Wayne vs. Robbie X & Taiji Ishimori; Unbound Company will be guaranteed a spot in the final if they win. If KUSHIDA & Nick Wayne win, they can only top the block if DOUKI & Yoshinobu Kanemaru lose their match to Master Wato & Kuukai. If House of Torture win their A Block match and Unbound Company lose, House of Torture would advance to Tuesday’s final.
The winners of each block will meet in the Super Junior Tag League final next Tuesday at Power Struggle in Hiroshima.
