Grayson Waller Tells NXT Stars to ‘Lock In’ Before Chasing Main-Roster Callups

On Chris Van Vliet’s INSIGHT podcast, NXT Champion Grayson Waller warned many NXT performers they’re not ready for the main roster and urged them to treat their NXT run more seriously.

WWE NXT Champion Grayson Waller used an appearance on Chris Van Vliet’s INSIGHT podcast to deliver a blunt message to the current NXT roster: many performers are not prepared for life on the main roster and need to work harder while they are in NXT.

Waller said his earlier comment calling the roster "soft" came from watching multiple iterations of talent come and go and from seeing people later wish they had treated their NXT opportunity with more focus. He argued the window to prove yourself is short — roughly six months to show consistent in-ring ability and about a year to put together a strong television match — and warned complacency can cost careers.

Asked about a prior line that "90% of the NXT roster think they’re getting called up tomorrow and only 10% are actually ready," Waller reiterated that some performers misunderstand the difference between NXT and the main roster. He described NXT as a more guided environment, where talent receives heavy coaching, while the main roster expects performers to carry themselves with less hand-holding. Waller pointed to recent success stories who adjusted after NXT — citing Oba (Femi) and Trick (Williams) — as models for how to make the jump successfully.

Waller also singled out competitors from indie backgrounds, saying many focus intensely on advanced wrestling technique but neglect the entertainment and promo skills WWE prioritizes. He urged those athletes to balance their ring craft with character work and crowd engagement, noting that WWE’s audience — including young fans — responds to entertaining performances as much as technical wrestling.

Waller said his comments were intended to help younger wrestlers appreciate the opportunity in front of them; he added that some took the message on board while others did not. The remarks were part of a longer interview on INSIGHT with host Chris Van Vliet.
