Dominick Cruz and TJ Dillashaw publicly defend Ciryl Gane against cheating claims
Former UFC champions Dominick Cruz and TJ Dillashaw spoke on Cruz’s podcast to reject recent accusations that Ciryl Gane intentionally cheated, pointing to an eye-poke finish and controversy after the Pereira fight.
Two former UFC champions, Dominick Cruz and TJ Dillashaw, pushed back against allegations that Ciryl Gane has been intentionally cheating. Their comments came during an appearance on Cruz’s Love & War podcast.
Cruz said an eye poke that ended Gane’s last fight reflected a defensive error rather than deliberate foul play, arguing that if an opponent can poke a fighter in the eye it indicates a mistake by the fighter and undercuts claims of purposeful cheating.
Dillashaw agreed, saying he does not believe Gane intentionally cheated. He suggested the controversy intensified after the Pereira fight, with fan support for Pereira leading some to scrutinize and label strikes as illegal. Dillashaw also said referee Herb Dean has taken criticism in the fallout.
The remarks are the latest public defenses of Gane amid debate over strikes in his recent bouts.
