Opinion: the midcard title deserves better than a three-minute match
A secondary championship is only as valuable as the time it gets on television. Right now, it isn't getting much.
Sample story. This article, the people in it and its quotes are fictional. It exists to demonstrate the Phase 1 design and is not real reporting.
There is a simple test for whether a championship matters: does the audience believe it changes the life of the person holding it? For the midcard title right now, the answer is no.
Three of its last four defences went under four minutes. The fourth happened during a pre-show. None were mentioned the following week.
Give it ten minutes on television once a month. Give the champion a rival with a reason. That's all it takes.
